hey guy as most or some of you know i have a 84 regal with a 3.8 NON TURBO
i am wondering what i can do to get some hp out of this thing
it runs great when cruising and has all kinds of top end
the bottom sucks would i benifit from a carb swap to a holley 2 brl 500(have 1)
or should i save pennies and acquire a 4 barrel intake and carb
is it not worth it ?
im not looking to spend BIG $$ on this. my future plans are the 383 stroker or the 454 i have going in it

but for now till my truck is back up and going i have to drive this
so question is can i advance the timing to get more response
or a carb change.the engine is a reman 60 over block (as the tag says)
the trans i rebuilt with shift kit it is the 200 c 3 speed
the rest of car is stock
gears are 241 ratio
any tips or secrets will help

I would save the cash for the v8 swap. Don't modify the 3.8!

just dident know if maybe a timing tweek and a better carb would help

It's a V-6 that doesn't produce much torque in the 1st place and couple that with 2.41 gears. That isn't a good combo for quick acceleration those gears are terrible. As stated above save your money for the V-8 & gears and do the job once. This is spoken from someone that's been there and done that. Hope this helps.

X2 on the rear gears, youll probly want some anyway with a V8..
any plans for a overdrive?? the th200 may not like the V8, very long..
a 700r4 has a better first gear ratio,, with some 3.73s or 4.11s its hard to beat..

it never hurts to check the timing, check the initial, centrifugal, total, and vacuum advance..
see what kinda curve you have?? the stock curves are a little on the slow side,,
depending on the mileage on our old cars check the distributor for slop
especially the centrifugal weights and pins under the rotor,, they do wear out..:cool:

the dizzy is electronic and computer advanced
car has the buick block so the trans will not mate up to the chevy engines i have but i do have a th350 (chevy) and a 700r4 that i plan on using
but right now cash is tight so until my truck is back up and going i cant tear apart my only ride.i was just looking for hp that isent there i gess
there is no substitute for displacement:D

i ment to ask in there somewhere if you still had the computer..
i'v found usually i can bump the initial timing up 4-6 degrees on a computer truck
without any pinging or rattling and still run 87 gas,, long as i'm not pulling a big load..

i understand about cash flow now days..
