View Full Version : New carb problems

I have a 305 on my regal. I just installed a edelbrock 1406 and I feel I am not getting full power. When I get on the freeway and hit 60mph, i can accelerate anymore. Any suggestions. My drivetrain was fuel injected when it was in the camaro and it was pretty fast.

Have you checked the linkage to make sure that you have full travel?

I will check that today.

check your mixture screws too.

I do have full travel. I had a mechanic adjust it and it's possible that he set the carb to be economic on gas. But I could be wrong. Do you guys think my gears would be a reason?

Whats your gearing?? yes if they are 411's with a 3 speed trans..

I'm not shure what gears I have but they are the stock gears of the 85 v6 regal and the transmission is from a 87 iroc camaro.

Fuel delivery issue i would say

Do you guys think I should open up the mixture a bit more?

Its worth a try, hows the idle?

It is pretty smooth. I don't have a revolution Gage yet. That's the reason I think the mechanic set the carb to be economic and I think I may me able to get some more power out of it. But I'm concerned of having my idle.

Did it run ok before the carb swap or is this first it has ran since the swap? Ive got the same carb on a 455 big block with no issues. Fuel injected motors have computer controlled dist, so that could be an issue.

Idle mixture screws only effect the idle circuit they have no effect on the motor when the motor is up in the rpm band. I'd check fuel delivery too. Possibly not enough fuel pressure. Or possibly float level is too low.

I know what your problem is you put a edelbrock on it :D put a holley 600 on it vac secondaries duel feed set idel mix screws one and a half on each side and you will never buy anything but holley the rest of ur days.

I like Holley carbs I use a 1050 dominator on my big blk. Old thread don't think he ever came back.
