Default While stopped engine stalls upon acceleration from complete stop

I have 1979 Cutlass Supreme with a 260 V8, that runs very strong and idles very quietly. Whenever I drive for a while and come to a stop and step on the gas pedal it will stall. Would this suggest the carburetor needs to be adjusted, idle needs to be adjusted or something else? It has a new gas filter and plugs and wires are fine.

seeing that the car runs well and idles just fine i can't see the idle needed to be increased, when you go from park to drive does it ever stall?or only from a stop? do you have a tach in the car to gauge the idle's behavior?knowing where it's idling @is a good place to start.

Melloelky thanks of your reply... It does not stall from park to drive, only when I come to a light, stop and go to accelerate does it stall out. It starts right up and continues to run super. This only happens when I stop and sit waiting for the light to change.

ok,i can't see raising the idle being a fix.if it was to low going from park to gear with your foot on the brake it would feel like it was going to stall but where you don't have any issues with that,i don't think that's it.to high of an idle would pose other drive-ability problems actually so raising it isn't the answer.i should've asked before what kinda carb is it?give us some background on the car,is it mostly stock or has it been worked on a bunch?

It's 100% stock with 95,000 miles on it. I will have to check the build sheet about what kinda carb.

If it is anything like the 267 that was originally in my El Camino it has a 2 barrel carb.

I'm wondering if the torque convertor is locking up too soon. It should not lock up until the car is going 30 mph or so.
